She/They

The Camera Is Witness is a body of work about comfort. About learning it, what it means and what it does. My body has been an enigma, an entity unknown to me, an incomprehensible reflection. My body, myself, is shifting, growing and changing. I see myself now, and I am a fan of who she is. I spent so much time being angry. Hating each little detail, criticizing myself for not meeting an impossible standard. I was not born a woman, no, but that does not take away my validity or existence. I am a woman first, and trans second. I used to hate feeling seen because I didn’t know what anyone saw. The camera, my witness, has seen me. It has been a guide to navigating myself, and the world. This project is not about pain. It is about radical rediscovery of the self. It is about power. It is about me, Imogen.
